Worldiness:Resisting the Seduction of a Fallen World
I have started yet another book, while reading through still A.W. Pink’s Practical Christianity, I have also picked up another book called “Worldliness: Resisting the Seduction of a Fallen World.” This book is edited by C.J. Mahaney and is authored by a several of Sovereign Grace Ministries ministers including Bob Kauflin.
I have only begun the first chapter and it’s already a book which has demonstrated the pain of sanctification, and the risk taking of faithfully going after sanctification in a way that is flesh killing. So far it has demonstrated our attachment toward the things of this world in such a way that is not “legalistic” but one that would have you look at the love of Christ and then with your whole heart seek to begin to obey. The analogy they begin the book with and carry throughout the first chapter is when Thomas Jefferson cuts portion of scripture out of the bible because it does not fit what what he considered to be true, and thus he disregarded much of the teaching about scripture which had to do with sin or hell. They begin the book by making this link between Jefferson cutting out scripture, and we who cut out scripture that we do not deem applicable or necessary in our lives. We skip over the portions which make us uncomfortable, or would be too difficult to apply.
Worldliness is written with 1 John 2:15 as its primary purpose “Do not love the world or anything in the world.” I looked ahead to chapter two and can see that they address the heart and media, and I’m sure many other “worldliness” factors of which I’m sure to be convicted by as I read though the book.
I would encourage anyone who does not want to be reactive in their walk with Christ, who is truely seeking after God in a proactive way, to read this book. It is yet another Gospel Centric application of God’s word in 1 John 2:15 which has so many implications for our daily lives.
