Whats Else Is Missing In Inner City & Often Even In The Church?

Voddie BauchamWe attended the keynote address for Midwest Parent Educators at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Overland Park, KS this evening. The speaker was Voddie Baucham, please forgive my camera phone’s poor quality. My wife and I along with some fellow new ‘northeasters‘ were able to attend to hear this message that has been ringing true for so many who hear it on the “Centrality of the Home.”

Text Ephesians 5-6 and Deuteronomy 6.

  • We have shunned our responsibility as parents and given that responsibility over to “government schools” who have no biblical authority to school/disciple our children. (School is Discipleship)
  • There are over 14000 hours of “Seat Time” that your child has bottoms in seats in front of their disciplers. If you want to know what someone believes study their teachers.
  • We have relegated in the church just like outside the church discipleship to youth leaders, and although sincere, we are losing 75% to 80% of our youth to the world.
  • The more youth leaders we have and the more money spent on youth leaders we actually see more youth falling away as the numbers of youth leaders & money toward youth programs go up. In other words these actually seems to work against the biblical construct of the father discipling his children.
  • Voddie asked the question as he was doing research for his book Family Driven Faith, ” Of the 100% of children that stay with their faith, which are the kinds of children that stay? He said he with out a doubt that he received two main answers.
  1. Those whose parents were discipling them at home.
  2. Those who had a poor home life who spent nearly 24/7 with the youth leader in his home.

He said in either case the answer took place in discipleship in the home.

This is just a preview of the message it’s powerful and worth listening to, and a true biblical change in our cultural perspective from compartmentalized age segregation ‘techniques’ to a biblical model of Father’s teaching sons and daughters being taught my mothers with Christ as central point of the home.

I wrote on this earlier this week in anticipation of going to this Key Note Address. Whats-Missing-In-The-Inner-City-The-Centrality-Of-The-Home

So I ask myself “What else is missing in the inner city? ”

(And not just the inner-city but in our culture in general )

The answer? - Faithful families living out their lives before God, with Jesus Christ as the center, setting the biblical example for the world, this is rare in most churches, in suburbia, and even more rare in the inner cities of America. This is motivated by our love for our families and children to carry the banner of truth further than we ever dreamed of, but most of all this setting the example for the world is for God. It is the “Do” part of doing the word, and not being a hearer only. The Gospel is a free gift from God but it will cost you your life. Luke 9:23-26 wrap your mind around that paradox in regards to your family, and you having to do not your will in your family but that of your father in heaven.

Voddie Baucham

We were fortunate to sit right behind Voddie this evening, and not Voddie worship please, however it was an honor to meet a man God has blessed with an ability to communicate clearly God’s vision for a biblical family.

The 2008 MPE CONFERENCE AND CURRICULUM FAIR will continue tomorrow up near the Kansas City Airport. I would encourage home schooling families, and non home schooling families to go, and may Christ be the central focus in our homes, and in our lives, and through Christ in our homes may God’s name be called great once again amongst our nation!
