Make Your Face Shine upon Us
This evening after four weeks of attempts to share the gospel, I spent some time in prayer alone before we went out for one more attempt in North Kansas City.
There is a difference when it comes to intruding on peoples homes, while they are eating dinner, or watching their favorite television show, and you wonder often when you knock on someone’s door how fruitful will this really be, which demonstrates the unbelief in my own heart.
For the last 4 of the 5 weeks we have attempted to lead groups from our church out, to knock on doors we have gone down to North Kansas City. Tonight I had my 6 year old son with me, Ian. Sharing Christ on the streets of Independence Avenue and knocking on a door were noticeably different. However tonight God had mercy on my heart as he allowed me to speak with a young lady this evening who was interested in the things of God.
I don’t know if we’ll be contacted by her, but I was able to share the Gospel. I can trust that God’s word is true and that it will do the work of the Gospel. I can not tell you how over joyed I was to be able to actually share the Gospel this evening, there is truly fewer joys in this life than when you come across someone God has appointed to hear and receive the good news.
We were able to talk briefly about original sin. The fact that we all sin, how it came to pass that sin entered the world, and how we can know that all men and women are sinful today. I was able to give my son as an example, and myself, which also led in to parts of my own testimony about Christ, and what He did in transforming my life. Then I was able to talk about Jesus. The fact that the bible says that there is one mediator between God and men and his name is Jesus Christ, and this is why we have a need for a savior. We spoke about righteousness, and that it’s not our own righteousness but His which allows us access to Heaven, and ultimately to God. She seemed genuinely interested in hearing more, stating that she had at one point some JW’s come to her house before but they couldn’t/wouldn’t answer her questions. I told her we would love to answer her questions, and gave her my email address.
Please pray for this young lady, and no names, God knows who she is….
God also has been teaching me about Himself. About His sovereignty, and how He is the ultimate end and beginning of all witnessing. It was amazing as I prayed this evening about “the one”, I had been all over the neighborhood and no one would even consider what we’ve had to say. Tonight was amazing as God allowed us to drive nearly right to her home and speak to His appointment, only an instrument in the hand of a sovereign God. And the support behind it all? Faithful fervent prayer from a few women in our church with a heart to cry out to God for the lost. God is good to provide such encouragement and then to answer all of our combined prayers for the lost! He’s a good God!
This is the Psalm I prayed over and and around this evening before Ian and I made our way down to NKC.
May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face to shine upon us, Selah
that your way may be known on earth,
your saving power among all nations.
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you!Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you judge the peoples with equity
and guide the nations upon earth. Selah
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you!
The earth has yielded its increase;
God, our God, shall bless us.God shall bless us;
let all the ends of the earth fear him! - Psalms 67
Tonight this is a praise report, and request for prayer for the woman. I pray that God would continue to draw this young lady to himself, and this would encourage God’s people to make His name Great among the nations, and among our neighbors.
Beginning with each one of you!
