Fellowship
Last evening we had an awesome experience I thought I would share, it was simple, yet profound. We were invited over to a friend’s home from church. We enjoyed company and food, and the idea was a “dirty Santa” type of game where we had fun and stole each other’s presents, all the things we didn’t want in our homes that we brought for others to be able to have this Holiday season. However the highlight to me was when Darrel opened up the bible and we went around the room and prayed through Psalms 34. Each person would grab a verse or a thought from the chapter and then would spend a few minutes in prayer. It was a rich time in the Lord. Really gave me some time to reflect on some of the things going on this year, and in a moments time I had a thought about suffering. One person’s prayer struck me as we take all of the things in this world problems and miss opportunities to be closer to Christ. Some people look at problems or suffering or the problem of suffering as simply problems, but in fact there is the spiritual truth that whatever the suffering, whatever the issue in this life it has a spiritual purpose and the over all purpose is an opportunity to see Christ at a deeper more profound level than you’ve seen or known him in the past. God’s purpose for His elect in the problems and suffering of His people is for their dependence upon a sovereign God for all things. God has been so good to us this year, and we have not suffered compared to most in the world. However as the future looks dim on the horizon of the United States of Amercia we were also reminded that God is sovereign over all things and in control, and this is where we must rest spiritually.
We of course enjoyed the comapny and the laghter, and absolutely the food. I’m looking forward to the new year and getting to know this group of people more as I see a true authentic desire for Christ in them. I am the youngin in the group and thus have lots to learn from these more “spiritually” mature guys!
