Bloody Disgust “Do you know that when you eat meat, something had to die for you to live?”
Do you remember “The Passion of the Christ” by Mel Gibson? There was a point in the movie I remember asking myself, was it really that bloody. I’ve watched some secular movies, mostly back before I had been born again, that were graphic yet less bloody than the Passion of the Christ. I remember for years we’ve sang songs about the blood of Jesus, and yet I equated these things simply to the better or the best atonement for our sin. Christ God in the flesh being the only one to satisfy a perfect God who required a perfect atonement or perfect lamb. The different aspects and significance of the blood I had never considered at a deeper level and never really understood the depth of what the blood means in regards to Christianity.
Our pastor is preaching through Hebrews, some of the best sermons I’ve heard to date, and yet I had never heard a sermon on “The Blood of Jesus.” Nor have I thought a great deal about the blood of Christ, and its significance in our atonement.
I’ll post the link to the sermon here, I want to encourage everyone to listen to it and comment if they have time. There were statements made like, “Do you know that when you eat meat, something had to die for you to live?”
He spoke of when little children see blood when they have a cut, it’s terrifying because there is life in the blood and in the most elementary senses we know that if we are losing blood we are losing life and we could die.
Pastor Tim also mentioned on the day of sacrifice, there would have been thousands of animals sacrificed, and the amount of blood that would have been everywhere. The stench, the smell, imagine our disgust with this scene, now “transfer that disgust to our own sin….” This was a powerful statement and the sermon is worth the download and the listen!
I look forward to hearing comments!
