Mission
There are many missions abroad and we fully support missions abroad at the same time we believe that it is essential to also begin where there is need within our own cities (Acts 1:8) We believe there are many who claim Christ yet do not know Christ. (Matthew 7:21) It is our contention that as Christians we are called, commissioned, and commanded to lay down our lives so that the Gospel might be preached to every creature under heaven. This not only means abroad but it means in your own backyard, and in the inner-city.
God has one great commitment and it is to His own glory. As people which desire to please our father rather than man we find great motivation not in man, but in God, and our God-given desire to see Him worshiped. We find our great confidence not in the Church’s ability to accomplish the Great Commission, but in God’s unrestricted and unhindered power to achieve all He has declared for His splendor and glory.
- The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of His splendor. –Isaiah 61:1-3
Although we recognize that there are many needs for the urban poor, the different sufferings of men and women which are diverse, we also believe that they all spring from a common origin - the radical depravity of the heart of man.
- The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? -Jeremiah 17:9
However there is only one hope for mankind and it is the gospel, therefore there is no greater purpose in this life than to be the means by which God grants grace to those who are in need but to take the gospel into the cities, to live and make disciples and by doing so take part in the fulfillment of the Great Commission.
- When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. -Matthew 9:36
Therefore out of the abundance of joy that we find through Christ Jesus, and in pleasing our Heavenly Father we pray that God might allow us to be used as empty vessels carrying only the living water of Christ Jesus to those in need of the gospel message, and it is in this that we spread the hope which does not disappoint, but that of the true vine.
- And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:18-20
